Location

  • Broad Distribution: Found all over Europe.
  • Primary Regions: They are mainly concentrated in Ireland, Scotland, Macedonia, and the Czech and Slovak Republics.
  • Status: Large numbers of these animals exist throughout the European continent.

Description

  • Size: Males typically have a shoulder height of 25–35 inches and weigh between 75–130 pounds.
  • Sexual Dimorphism: Females are extremely smaller than males.
  • Coat: The texture of the wool or hair and the overall coloration changes depending on the geographic area where the animal is found.

Remarks

  • Diet: Primarily a grazer, though they will browse on vegetation to a certain extent.
  • Activity Patterns: They feed mostly during the afternoon and at dusk. In months with hotter temperatures, they prefer to rest in intensive cover.
  • Survival Traits: They are fast runners and are known to be very alert and wary when being hunted.
